1. Harrison Park Island - Accessible Washroom Renovations

Mandatory Site Meeting - Tuesday April 21, 2015 @ 10:00 am.

In 2009, the City of Owen Sound in collaboration with the Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound designed and constructed the Kiwanis Accessible Playground for ALL.

Adjacent to this fully accessible playground is a dated washroom facility; the facility does not meet universal accessible design guidelines and access to the washroom from the playground is not feasible for persons using mobility devices or have varying disabilities.

The proposed Accessible washroom will:

- enhance the connection and level of accessibility of the pathway from the playground to the washroom entrance to enable persons with disabilities equal access to the facility;

- improve interior and exterior lighting to provide safe path of travel and improve visual accessibility;

- replace existing doors with fully automated accessible doors that are wider to allow access by persons using mobility devices;

- acceptable signage that is clear and universal;

- provide adequate space and turning radius for washrooms in accordance with Universal Design Guidelines and Ontario Building Code;

- replace existing washroom fixtures with new low water fixtures and easy-to-use mechanisms including grab bars that meet requirements of the Ontario Building Code and Universal Design Guidelines.
